Welcome to our Website.

The GGRA was born in the late summer of 2006 and has a 12 member Board of Directors
Our purpose is to promote the interests and well being of all Gravenhurst Residents and foster pride in our community. ( See our Purpose and Objectives at "About us" ). Fees are $20.00 per year. You may join by using the membership form. Click here to go there
Since inception we have:
    - limited the boat slips in Ditchburn Bay at the Wharf
    - Monitored the election process
    - Scrutineered the election
    - identified the problems with the ballot system
    - made formal written suggestions for improvement of ballot system.
    - Interviewed and profiled all 2006 candidates for council
   - Worked to establish resident input to Council via citizen committees: i.e.. a Trails Advisory Committee (already implemented and one of our members is on it), a Citizen Committee of Adjustment, an environmental Advisory Committee.
    - Made representations to the Council for more open information.
    - Proposed that the town website has the full agendas and background papers and minutes of Council meetings, which is now being done.

    - Requested pre-budget information sessions
    - worked jointly with other Gravenhurst organizations to improve citizen access and highlight areas where action is needed.

We attend and monitor all Council meetings and send GGRA members a summary of the Council meetings immediately following these meetings. We are pleased to add our reports of Gravenhurst Council meetings to our website. Part of our purpose is to "inform Gravenhurst citizens of matters of public concern, to act as a link to Gravenhurst and it's people, and to offer Gravenhurst citizens the opportunity for a voice in municipal affairs".

We identify issues arising from the meetings, and make deputations to the Council on matters of broad public interest. i.e.. retaining public access to the lakes, retaining boat launches, budget issues (GGRA recently influenced the Town to turn down a tender for landscaping that was in excess of the budget and rethink their methods of landscaping in that particular area)

We have come a long way.  We welcome new members.  There is strength in numbers and our town is growing.  We should have a say in how it grows and in which direction.  Gravenhurst needs you!  Be a part of your town by joining us and we will keep you informed! Welcome!
